Derek McDaniels, BS, MBA
President
Derek McDaniels’ career has spanned over 30 years in real estate development. He is currently the Principal of a real estate development and consulting firm, Northstar Development Advisors. Mr. McDaniels is the president of a Richmond based non-profit, Nehemiah Community Development Corporation which focuses on revitalizing of the city’s neighborhood commercial corridors.
Mr. McDaniels has been a lecturer for the Edward St. Johns Real Estate Institute of John’s Hopkins University and The Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore. Mr. McDaniels has completed a Bachelors degree in Urban Studies and Architecture at the University of Maryland; completed his Masters in Business at Marymount University and The University of South Florida; and Mr. McDaniels has completed corporate course work at Harvard University.
Mr. McDaniels has a passion for directing young adult males to a successful life path. Mr. McDaniels has created and participated in High School mentoring programs for males in Prince George’s County, Maryland focusing on males facing difficulty in the high school environment leading them to successful graduation rates and improving relationships with family and community members. Mr. McDaniels has taught a financial management class at Boaz and Ruth, a Richmond based non-profit, focused on enhancing life skills for those recently released from prison.
Currently, Mr. McDaniels volunteers for First Things First at Beaumont Youth Detention center conducting a 7 week class entitled “Relationship Smarts Plus. Mr. McDaniels is married and the father of 4 children: 3 adult children and one elementary school age child.
